The National Association of Persons with Physical Disability (NAPWPD) strongly condemns the heinous and senseless act of violence that resulted in the tragic death of one its members, Aisha Aminu, a 30-year-old woman with physical disabilities, in the town of Obehira, Okene LGA, located in Kogi State, Nigeria.
NAPWPD notes that the details surrounding Aisha’s murder are truly horrifying as eyewitnesses reported that Siyaka Mohammed, her 44-year-old boyfriend from Obehira, forcefully dragged her from the inner chamber of her shop in the early morning hours and carried out a frenzied stabbing assault following a heated argument and misunderstanding. It was recorded that despite her valiant efforts to defend herself, Aisha sustained fatal injuries and tragically succumbed to her wounds.
NAPWPD extends its deepest condolences to Aisha’s family, friends, and the entire community affected by this devastating loss.
NAPWPD call on the general public to be their brother’s keeper and defend the vulnerable among them from harm. It also call the law enforcement officers to leave no stone unturned in fishing out the perpetrator of this criminal and heinous crime, reiterating that justice for Aisha is a justice for about 20 million people with physical disabilities in Nigeria.
The National President of NAPWPD, Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed while calling for justice for its deceased member reiterated that NAPWPD stands in solidarity with all those affected by domestic violence, calling for an end to this recurrent evil against its members while striving and hoping for a society where everyone can live free from fear, abuse, and harm.
